Could AllJoyn-Powered Windows 10 Machines Tip Balance In Smart Home?

Mike Wolf alljoyn allseen Microsoft

Time makes a good point in that the addition of AllJoyn capabilities to Windows 10 could be a big deal. Microsoft has been pretty quiet on the IoT front, but an smart home-AllJoyn powered operating system from Microsoft could provide an interesting counterbalance to HomeKit and Weave. Also, let's not forget Windows typically has had strong UPnP support, and UPnP has recently been pushing the fairly pervasive home networking discovery protocol has been pushing into IoT. I do think Microsoft will likely have some interesting new IoT and smart home initiatives they will spring on us this year, and Windows...

It's the Smart Home Weekly Update for the week of February 16, 2015There have been some stories the last few weeks highlighting both the security weaknesses and privacy concerns over the smart home. There’s also a growing sense that certain categories in the smart home are a little over-invested (this is probably also something that can be said for the broader IoT). I touch on both of these in this week's weekly.  But first I wanted to mention we have a date for the our smart home party at SXSW. What Will Happen in Smart Home in 2015

It’s mid-January, and CES is in the books, so it’s about time I get my smart home predictions out for the year, right?Actually, while most prognosticators work on the prediction posts in December, I think anyone predicting the upcoming year in consumer tech before CES risks seeing their predictions out of date a week into the year. That’s because many big tech companies (as well as startups) show their hands for the next 12 months at the show. And sometimes, others even make industry-shaking acquisitions in the same week.So that makes me right on time! :)As far as approach, I like Fred...
